Celebrate the Small Wins

A couple of friends recently reminded me that it's important to celebrate the small wins. If you're subscribed to my newsletter, you may have read the vague hints I've given about recent successes. However, I hesitated to say anything more than "fires are burning and good things are coming," for a couple reasons...mostly because I'm superstitious and don't want to jinx anything. So this post is a little update on this #WritersLife and a reminder to anyone who needs the reminder...celebrate all the wins!
As some of you know, the entertainment industry is a finicky one. Often it's a hurry up and wait situation, so I did a lot of hurrying last year, and now I'm currently waiting.

But I got to work on my first series as a writer and script consultant last spring/summer, which is the result of hard work and building good relationships over the years. And now, sometime this year (I think), you'll get to see my name credited as a writer on a series that will be released on Netflix.

There are also a couple projects slowly chugging along, but both in places that I'm extremely grateful for because I know not everyone gets these opportunities. Major platforms are reading my scripts, and that's something to celebrate. Also, as I write this post one project is currently picking up steam...*send up some good vibes* for me🙏🏽

"Small successes make bigger successes." Is that how the saying goes?

In the midst of all the hurrying and waiting, last year I also wrote a couple other pilots and started a fun family feature set in Hawaii. And just this month I revisited a short film script I wrote two years ago and finally gave it that *something something* it was missing, just in time to submit to a shorts challenge I'm really excited about. The competition will be heavy, but it's still exciting nonetheless.

So, when I think about how much writing I've done while being a WFH pandemic mom, I know I need to be proud of myself. And this is just the screenwriting I've done! I haven't even talked about my copywriting business, which is also steadily growing.

Moving forward, I'm going to try to keep this blog better updated on my writing journey. That's what I intended, when I started this new blog...but I stalled because I didn't know what to say, suffered from a bit of imposter syndrome even though I've been writing since BEFORE I could properly spell, and letting the perfectionist in me hold me back.

Now, I'm working on owning every small success I achieve.

I also started a new business IG account for Red Balloon Station, where I'll be posting lots of writing tips, especially related to copywriting. Even if you don't own a business or are not a writer, I think you'll find the writing tips I have often translate to life tips, because copywriting isn't just a marketing tool, it's a life skill.

What are the small wins happening in your life?

Celebrate and appreciate every little step forward you make, because you earned it.
