I recently had the opportunity to experience a sound bath. It's not something I had previously had any interest in trying. Admittedly, I even thought it might be a little too woo woo. But I am so glad that I had this experience, because I never knew I could feel this type of relaxation and peace...
I think everyone's experience is different and personal. One person in our session even fully fell asleep!
But me...I found myself resting in a strangely pleasant limbo of being in a conscious dream state. Have you ever been so tired, your body feels like a block of lead, and you're dreaming but also aware that you're dreaming? This was like that except I didn't feel heavy. My body melted into the cold hard ground underneath my yoga mat, and I felt the stillest, most beautiful peace I have ever felt. I was in a true state of deep relaxation.
My mind wandered into its own paradise, and I wanted to stay there forever. When I went home, I tried so hard to hang on to that calm for as long as possible. It was truly an amazing and much needed experience.
I feel like doctors and therapists need to prescribe sound baths for stress management. It's definitely something I'm adding to my box of stress management tools /methods, along with yoga, beach walks, steam rooms, and gua sha.
If you ever get the chance to try a sound bath…do it. Or if you’ve been thinking about it…do it. If you’ve never even heard of a sound bath, go find somewhere you can experience one asap.
