I read somewhere that the Year of the Ox (this last year) was all about recognizing our responsibilities and putting in the work, while the Year of the Tiger is about putting that work into drive and really making things happen. So let's find out who the Tiger is, the Tiger's lucky and unlucky signs, and what to expect in the Year of the Tiger. (Anyone else suddenly bust out singing "Eye of the Tiger" whenever they say "Year of the Tiger" 🐅?)

Who Is The Tiger?

The tiger was the third to win the Zodiac race and therefore is the third animal in the Chinese Zodiac calendar. Those born in the Year of the Tiger are known to be brave, ambitious, competitive, generous with a desire to help others, born leaders, and have a keen sense for justice . They can also be arrogant and stubborn.

But personality types also depend on the elemental year. For example, this year is the Year of the Water Tiger, and Water Tigers are known to be curious, highly independent, and hold high self-esteem. Other elements include: fire, wood, metal (or gold), and earth.

In case you're not sure, you were likely born in the Year of the Tiger if you were born in one of the following years (unless you were born before the Lunar New Year started): 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 or 2010.

Some famous people who are Tigers: Queen Elizabeth II, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stevie Wonder, Jon Bon Jovi, and Lady Gaga,

Lucky Signs For The Tiger

Unlucky Signs For The Tiger

*Note: I've seen different site list different directions for lucky and unlucky, so I'm not really sure how this is determined.

Who Tigers Get Along With

Tigers get along with Dragons, Horses, and Pigs...but not so much with other Tigers, Ox, Snakes, and Monkeys

It's A Good Year For...

This year is said to be a good year for those born in the year of the Rabbit, Dragon, Horse, Rooster, and especially those born in the year of the Ox and Goat.

Interestingly, being born in the Year of the Tiger does not make it a good year for you. Chinese superstition suggests you wear more red to protect yourself. Be careful when going out, and pay attention to changes.

Also, as it's a water year, and water is known to be unpredictable, it is said that we should all be cautious of sudden changing conditions. But it's also a year for us to make some waves. So if you've got some big goals...now is the time to make them all happen.
